The exhibition, curated by Kristina Dziedzic Wright, features paintings by Léa Nasnas Chami, along with contributions from other immigrants in Oslo through art therapy workshops. Nasnas is a Norwegian citizen born in Lebanon with a French education. She is a self-taught visual artist with a special style that she calls "emotional art", and her paintings are characterized by vibrant, bluish or metallic colors. She often paints expressionist abstract paintings while working as a school assistant and as an independent bio-decoding and art therapy coach.
How did we get here? is part of the action research project CARES (Curating in the Anthropocene with Responsive Engagement and Stories) to explore migration, identity and belonging and the ways art can bring people together.

L'exposition, organisée par Kristina Dziedzic Wright, présente des peintures de Léa Nasnas Chami, ainsi que des contributions d'autres immigrants d'Oslo lors d'ateliers d'art-thérapie. Nasnas est une citoyenne norvégienne née au Liban et ayant reçu une éducation française. Artiste plasticienne autodidacte, elle possède un style particulier qu'elle qualifie d'« art émotionnel » et dont les peintures se caractérisent par des couleurs vibrantes, bleutées ou métalliques. Elle peint souvent des tableaux abstraits expressionnistes tout en travaillant comme assistante scolaire et comme coach indépendante en bio-décodage et art-thérapie.
How did we get here? fait partie d’une action d’un projet de recherche CARES (Curating in the Anthropocene with Responsive Engagement and Stories) pour explorer les themes de la migration, de l’identité et de l’appartenance et comment l’art peut rapprocher les personnes.

Utstillingen, kuratert av Kristina Dziedzic Wright, inneholder malerier av Léa Nasnas Chami, sammen med bidrag fra andre innvandrere i Oslo gjennom kunstterapi verksteder. Nasnas er en norsk statsborger født i Libanon med fransk utdanning. Hun er selvlært billedkunstner med den spesielle stilen som hun kaller «følelseskunst», og hennes malerier er preget av levende, blåaktige eller metalliske farger. Hun maler ofte ekspresjonist abstrakte malerier samtidig som jobben sin som skoleassistent og som selvstendig bio-decoding og art therapy coach.
«Hvordan kom vi hit?» er en del av aksjonsforskningsprosjektet CARES («Curating in the Anthropocene with Responsive Engagement and Stories») for å utforske migrasjon, identitet og tilhørighet og måtene kunst kan knytte mennesker sammen.

The paintings are grouped according to 5 different themes:
Emotion art:

Rage, Torment, Hope and Happiness are the first works of art Léa created in 2003 to process her feelings about something. (Listed in the order they were made, representing this particular cycle of emotional processing.) For over 20 years now, Lea has been painting in this style that she calls emotion art. She is also a trained art therapist and works with people of all ages to help them process their emotions through art.

Just a week after Léa and her family moved to Oslo in 2020, their neighborhood in Beirut exploded. She knew some of the victims well and felt lucky to be in Norway, but at the same time, why did this happen to the others?

Léa loves how vibrant and colorful the four seasons are in Norway, and she is inspired by Norway’s nature.

Vincent Van Gogh is Léa’s favorite painter and she created this series as a tribute to him. There are several versions of these paintings in different sizes, and she also prints the designs on tote bags and pillow cases.

Léa's motto is “We are each of us angels with only one wing and we can only fly by embracing one another”. She believes that we need each other to thrive in life. As a Catholic, she enjoys praying with and for others. As a psychobiological decoding therapist and art therapist, she knows that it is important to express emotions in the right environment. The easiest way is to spend enough time with good people to eat together, to paint together, to sing together, and to open your heart and house to each other.

La Rage, La Tourmente, L’Espoir et Le Bonheur sont les premieres oeuvres de que Léa a créé en 2003 pour liberer des émotions. Depuis plus de 20 ans, Léa peint selon un style qu’elle a nommé art-émotion. Elle est aussi formée à l’art thérapie et aide les personnes de tous ages à exprimer leurs emotions à travers l’art.

A peine une semaine après s’etre réinstallée avec sa famille à Oslo en 2020, tout le quartier où Léa habitait à Beyrouth a été détruit par une explosion au port. Parmi les victimes, plusieurs proches, famille, amis, voisins ont été touchés et Léa réalisa sa chance d’être en Norvège, mais en même temps, pourquoi les autres?

Léa adore observer les changements de la nature et est très inspirée par les couleurs des différentes saisons en Norvège.

Vincent Van Gogh est le peintre préféré de Léa et elle a créé une série d’oeuvre pour lui rendre hommage. Il y a plusieurs versions de ces tableaux chacun a un format different. Elle imprime aussi ces design sur des sacs, et des housse de coussins.

Le slogan de Léa est “ Nous sommes chacun de nous des anges avec une seule aile, et nous ne pouvons voler qu’en s’enlaçant l’un l’autre”. Elle est convaincue que nous avons besoin les uns des autres pour s’épanouir dans la vie. En tant que catholique, elle aime prier pour et avec les autres. En tant que thérapeute en décodage biologique et art-thérapeute, elle sait que c’est important d’exprimer ses emotions dans le bon environnement. La meilleure solution est donc de passer du temps avec les bonnes personnes, de manger ensemble, peindre ensemble, chanter ensemble et d’ouvrir son coeur et sa maison les uns aux autres.

Rage, Torment, Hope and Happiness er de første kunstverkene Léa skapte i 2003 for å bearbeide følelsene sine om noe. (Listet opp i rekkefølgen de ble laget, som representerer denne spesielle syklusen av emosjonell bearbeiding.) I over 20 år nå
har Lea malt i denne stilen som hun kaller emosjonskunst. Hun er også utdannet kunstterapeut og jobber med mennesker i alle aldre for å hjelpe dem med å bearbeide følelsene sine gjennom kunst.

Bare en uke etter at Léa og familien hennes flyttet til Oslo i 2020 eksploderte nabolaget deres i Beirut. Hun kjente noen av ofrene godt og følte at hun var heldig som var i Norge, men samtidig, hvorfor ikke de andre?

Léas motto er “We are each of us angels with only one wing and we can only fly by embracing one another”. Hun synes at vi trenger hverandre for å trives i livet. Som katolsk, liker hun å be sammen med andre og for andre. Som psykobiologisk dekodende terapeut og kunsteterapeut, vet hun at det er viktig å uttrykke følelser i det rette miljøet . Det enkleste måte er å bruke nok tid med gode mennesker for å spise sammen, å male sammen, å synge sammen, og å åpne hjerte og huset til hverandre.
